7.5 weeks (inside/out)

The top picture is Ewan at 7.5 weeks inside (07/18/11), this was our first look at the little guy - we saw his heart beat and his yolk sac. The bottom series is from today, 7.5 weeks on the outside.

52 : 7

Everyone said it - the smiles will erase the worry and the tired - even if momentarily! We marked April 16th as Ewan's first social smiles, meaning it was prompted by something we did, and happily it was repeatable.

This week I am going to include two photos from a cuddle session on a very hot day. The first is a happy grin and the second a gurgly laugh.

Project People - Bathroom

Our bathroom, like the kitchen, needed a lot of work and was gutted completely from it's original 1950's cardinal and straw glory.

We removed an odd cabinet from the wall in our living room to allow the bench at the back of the shower; the bench is perfect for leg shaving, storage, and most recently bathing EP. The color scheme of the subway tile (at the top of the shower and on the floor) allows for quick decor updating in that many colors of towels can be used, and if needed an afternoon with a can of paint could allow for an easy and cheap makeover.

52 : 6

This week is all about numbers: EP is 6 weeks old and has slept 7 straight hours at night 5 times in a row --- and he naps like a champ per this week's photo. We are under no illusion that this will continue, but we are enjoying every ZZZZ!

52 : 5

On Sunday Ewan turned 1 month, and we swear he woke up bigger. It seems hard to believe it has already been a month, but at the same time it seems like he has been with us forever! Month 1 was full of eating, sleeping, diapers, cuddles, and learning for all involved. At EP's one month check up today he weighed in at 11 pounds and 4 ounces (a gain of 1 pound 7 ounces) and measured 23 3/4 inches (up 1 3/4), healthy increases for our happy boy.

EP's official 1 month photo - taken on April 8th, 2012.

Happy Easter from EP

This will be a year of firsts and today was Ewan's very first Easter AND his 1 month birthday! The morning was spent on Skype with the rest of the day a mix of sleeping, eating, and picture taking.

52 : 4

A couple weeks ago I told you about Kevin's tunes - my new favorite is "we will do a dance, we will do a dance, because we have clean pants" - so this week I will tell you about mine.

A common cause for laughter in our home is my ability to butcher song lyrics and common sayings --- I really do think I am saying them right until Kevin bursts in to laughter, I am sure Ewan will be next to laugh at me, and provides documentation of what I should actually be saying. This week we had another one of those moments as I sang to EP. I honestly could not have told you who sang the song I was singing or even the title, but of course the 4 lines I thought I knew I did not, but when you are lulling a baby to sleep does it really matter?

These are the (accurate) lines I have sung 100+ times this week:
My baby takes the morning train
He works from nine 'til five and then
        He takes another home again
To find me waitin' for him

I truly had no idea what song this was, these lines just came to mind so I sang them to my baby and they worked, as illustrated by the picture below! EP sleeps like a champ, maybe not for as long as I would like, but soon enough I am sure he will and these cuddly naps in my arms will be a thing of the past. And in case you do not know what song these lines are from here is a video for you of Sheena Easton's Morning Train

Project People - Kitchen

The kitchen was one of the rooms that the previous inhabitants of our home did redo, in the late seventies. We considered saving the old yellow appliances for posterity, but that just did not work out. There are many reasons why Peri is lucky to have found Kevin, and how handy he is is just one of them. He literally did all of the work required to redo our house, including the rewiring that took us from a 4 fuse box to a modern day electrical system. The only work he did not do was raising the roof and installing the heater/ac, we felt compelled to pay for these updates.

Here are the before pictures:

The during...

And the after...

We removed a window so we would have space for double ovens = love. The 6 burner professional range was also a must. For the colors we went basic browns and beiges so that we could update the drapes and accents on a whim; the current flavor is lime green, yellow, and teal.

The kitchen is a favorite spot as cooking and baking are a major part of our bond... +PLUS we got engaged in this kitchen shortly after it was completed.
